[2026 Update: Is it only for kids?]
Many people ask, “Is this place only for kids?” My answer is No. Even for adults, it is a very fun place.
The maze is actually quite hard and large. It took us about 40 minutes to find all the animals. If you go with your partner or friends, you can have a race or a challenge. It’s a good physical activity for adults too.
Also, this place has a long history in Canberra since 1973. There are very old train carriages from 1910. They look very beautiful and vintage. If you like taking photos, you will love it here. 2026 is a great time to visit because the area is well-maintained and the lake view from Weston Park is still amazing.

Canberra New Maze Experience Review | Things to Know Before You Book
I recently visited a newly opened maze experience in Canberra. At first, I thought it would be small, but the maze was actually quite large.
I strongly recommend bringing a small water bottle. There is no water fountain inside, and the maze requires more physical effort than expected.
It’s best to eat a proper meal before entering, especially if you plan to spend a long time inside. Luckily, we grabbed some food at a cafe in the Yarralumla shop.
From Wanaka to Canberra | Why We Booked This Maze
About ten years ago, I tried a maze experience at Puzzling World in Wanaka, New Zealand. I remember it being very fun, so when I heard that a maze had opened in Canberra, I booked right away. My husband and I both really enjoy escape rooms, puzzles, and problem-solving activities, so this maze was something we were genuinely excited about.

- Weekends: 9:00 am – 2:30 pm
- Booking slots are 30 minutes or 1 hour
We booked the 2:00 pm session, and the confirmation email showed 2:00–3:00 pm. At first, I thought we had to leave by 3:00 pm, but there is actually no strict time limit. You can exit and re-enter the maze, as long as you wear your wristband. The wristband is picked up at the cafe shown in the photos, before entering the maze.

Location and Parking | Easy Access Near Weston Park
The maze is located right next to the Yarralumla Play Station building. There is a parking area right beside the building, and parking was easy during our visit. Directly in front of the maze is Weston Park, a large public park with walking paths, barbecue areas, and a playground. On weekends, many families visit this area, and it’s easy to plan activities before or after the maze.
Maze Challenge Options | What We Tried
There are two challenge options available.
Challenge 1
- Visit all four forts
- Exit the maze without using any shortcuts
- In an emergency, go to the covered central area and follow the emergency signs
Challenge 2 (Our Choice)
- Find seven animal photos hidden throughout the maze
- Write down the underlined spelling for each animal photo
- Use the letters to form a secret word
- A challenge sheet can be collected from the staff

Actual Maze Experience Review | What It’s Really Like
Inside the maze, we tried to remember the wooden wall patterns to figure out where we had already been. However, after some time, everything started to look the same, so this method didn’t really help. We also noticed X marks carved into the wood, probably left by other visitors, but they didn’t make much difference either.
After about 30-40 minutes of getting lost and walking around, we slowly became more familiar with the maze layout. After finding a few animals, it was possible to guess the word, but we still completed the challenge properly and found all seven, like finishing a quest.
We heard there was no time limit and that you could do as many challenges as you wanted, but we were happy just to fully complete one. Doing two would have been too physically tiring for us.

A Must-Visit Spot Inside the Maze | Mirror Room
Inside the maze, there is a Mirror Room in the central covered area, which is a very small space decorated with multiple lights. Thanks to the mirrors, the room looks much bigger and more impressive than it actually is. The experience reminded me of TeamLab Planets in Tokyo. Even if you’re not into social media, this is a very memorable visual spot, and I recommend visiting it at least once.

✅ Who This Maze Experience Is Good For
- People who want a different kind of walk: If you’re tired of walking the same paths near home, this offers a more interesting walking experience.
- Families looking for an active outing: There is a lot of walking, so children are likely to be very tired by the end of the day. There are also mini golf and train riding in the Yarralumla play station, and a public park with a playground right next to it.
- Couples looking for a unique date idea: If you’re bored of typical cafe or restaurant dates, this maze makes a fun and memorable date.
- People who enjoy adventure and puzzles: If you like escape rooms, puzzles, and challenges, you’ll probably enjoy this maze.
Weather Tips for the Canberra Maze | Best Time to Visit
The maze is outside, but the wooden walls help stop the wind a little. However, there is no protection from direct sunlight, so checking the weather before visiting is very important. Personally, I think a cloudy day is much better than a sunny day. Spring and autumn are ideal seasons, and even in summer, visiting early in the morning would be the most comfortable option.
